nursery is provided for your convenience. Our new nursery is much
larger and has a state of the art infant security system. Our staff
provides 24 hour newborn care. There is also an “isolation
room” for sick babies and the nursery is able to care for
premature babies not requiring ventilators. However, we at Mena
Regional understand and support your wishes to have rooming in to
promote bonding, if your condition and the infant’s condition

We offer a warm home like atmosphere with
a family oriented philosophy. Each Birthing Room is designed so
that you labor, deliver, and recover in the same room. Our birthing
rooms are beautifully decorated to provide a comfortable atmosphere.
Although each room combines the look and feel of home, all of the
necessary medical and emergency support are readily available. We
want all of our patient’s to be as comfortable as possible
during their stay. We have brand new state of the art birthing beds
that allow for position of comfort during labor and delivery. If
you were to need a cesarean section, Mena Regional encourages the
fathers or labor coach to share the birth experience. With the physician’s
approval, the father is welcome to join you in the C-Section Suite
to offer you support, reassurance and to be with your new baby in
the precious first moments of life. After your C-Section you will
go to our Post-Partum Rooms and cared for by our professional caring
staff just as you would if you had a routine delivery.
Your privacy is important to us. We respect the
wishes of our patients. The nursing staff creates an individualized
plan of care for you. Your family is important to us so we offer
visiting whenever the patient wants. Signs for the door are available
to let the family know when would be a good time for visiting. We
offer all of our patients private rooms with private bathrooms at
Mena Regional Health System.
Our nurses carry pocket pagers meaning
our patients get very prompt responses to their calls. Our staff
is available for lactation nursing as well. Social and dietary services
are also available. We also offer bimonthly Prepared Childbirth
Classes free of charge to our patients. The class schedule is the
first two Thursday nights of the month from 6pm-8pm in the following
months: January, March, May, July, September, & November.

We know that your baby’s first photo
is very important to you. We offer professional photo’s of
your brand new baby. During your stay, if you consent, we will take
a picture of your baby and give you a booklet that you can choose
what packet would be right for you and your family. We also have
a website that you can go to and retrieve your baby’s photos
online. Visit our Online Nursery at

we can help answer any of your questions you may have and make and
suggestions on what to do to be prepared. We offer tours of Women’s
Services at your convenience. We also offer a Pre-Induction and
Pre-Cesarean Section Teaching program. Through this program you
come in prior to your induction or cesarean section and all of your
consents are signed and teaching is done with you. We answer any
questions that you might have at this time.

is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system
for the examination of breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram,
is used as a screening tool to detect early breast cancer in women
experiencing no symptoms and to detect and diagnose breast disease
in women experiencing symptoms such as a lump, pain or nipple discharge.

Bone Density Using QCT
Bone Densitometry (QCT) is performed here at
Mena Regional using our CT scanner. This gives more accurate results
than bone density with DEXA, which is standard in most imaging facilities.
The scanning time of QCT is about 15 minutes, whereas DEXA is closer
to 30 minutes. QCT measures the inner (trabeculae) of the bone,
which is the first area to be changed by Osteoporosis, giving more
accurate results of changing bone density. We suggest having these
scheduled with your Mammogram appointment as an easy way to ensure
both studies are done yearly. If you are at risk for Osteoporosis,
insurance and Medicare may allow one per year, so there may be little,
if any, out of pocket expense. Osteoporosis is a manageable disease,
with the current medications, so ask your doctor to schedule your
